A historic victory for Okabe

Japanese Takanobu Okabe made Kuopio’s World Cup competition historical by being the oldest winner of the World Cup history. 38-year-old Okabe won with stable jumps; the first one was 123-meter-long and the second one half a meter longer.

“I’m really happy. I didn’t believe I could still make it to the highest podium,” told the satisfied winner who had won World Cup competitions last time almost 11 years ago.

Experience was the keyword today. Second was Simon Amman from Switzerland and third Adam Malysz from Poland. Both did it much better on the second round and made it to the podium.

“It was a long way back to podium though it wasn’t as long as it was for Takanobu. I hope I’ll do better again on next competitions after the success of today,” told Malysz who has been often good at Puijo.

“This season has been success for me but I still want to do well on Nordic Tournament and World Cup. I did today two good jumps and was second,” said Amman. “I feel pretty young at the podium today,” he smiled as well.

The competition wasn’t success for Finnish team. Harri Olli and Kalle Keituri were leading after first round but the second round wasn’t that good in light snow fall. Olli ended up to 4th place which has become familiar for him lately.

“To success you need good jumps and luck. The first jump was very good and the second wasn’t bad either,” analyzed Olli
