Liverpool sent different Ibrahima Konate red card verdict after Wolves boss' fume

 Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher doesn't believe Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate should have been given a second yellow card for his challenge on Matheus Cunha — a decision that left Wolves boss Vitor Pereira furious on the touchline.

"I am not the referee but yes for me," Pereira told the BBC when he was asked whether Konate should have been sent off. "What I say now will not change anything, but in my opinion, the second yellow card should be shown."

He was considerably calmer by that point having picked up a booking for his protestations to the referee during the game. Cunha scored in the second half but Liverpool held on, with Jarell Quansah impressing having replaced Konate at half-time.

"I don't think it's a second yellow card," Gallagher said during his Sky Sports Ref Watch segment. "If you look at the replay, he catches him with his shoulder. It's a foul but it is not a reckless foul. He has to challenge for the ball."

"It's a coming together of the two players who have clashed," former Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock added. "It's shoulder to shoulder and it's not an out of control movement."

Matheus Cunha impresses at Anfield

Cunha went on to score a goal that made the game 2-1 after the break but Liverpool just about held on despite having no attacking threat and failing to have a single second-half shot. The result moved the Reds seven points clear and they could extend that lead to 10 points by beating Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Liverpool.com says: It would have been very harsh to issue a second yellow card for Konate in this instance. His first yellow was pretty harsh as well considering the position on the field that the foul was which led to it.

Wolves were incensed at the time but the referee doesn't always need to be the center of attention. Konate was replaced because one more mistimed tackle and he could have been sent off.
